Sassa Status Check – SRD 350 2024

You requested the South African Social Security (SASSA) grant a week ago but have not yet received it, right? To pacify the feelings of anxiety, you can check SASSA status by logging into the website or calling the SASSA office. Come with me if you want to learn how to check SASSA status.

SASSA Status Check

Applying for the SASSA grant is not difficult, but checking the status of the application is sometimes challenging for applicants. Well, we can check the application status via cell phone, the SASSA mobile application, or by logging into the SASSA website. All these methods are proven, as I have used all of them myself; let’s check the status of your application.

Checking SASSA Status Online

All you need is a strong internet connection to check the SASSA application status. Basically, SASSA has a website where you need to log in, and it gives details about the application’s status. Here, you can cancel the application and also change the banking details or other personal pieces of information.

  • Step 1: Go to the official website of the SASSA (link is given below).
    https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
  • Step 2: You will see two bars, provide your ID number in the first bar.
  • Step 3: Provide the mobile number you mentioned in the application while creating a SASSA account in the lower bar.
  • Step 4: Once you are sure that the provided information is authentic, click on the “Submit” button.
  • Step 5: A new page will appear on the screen containing a list of options, so tap on the “Status Check.”
  • Step 6: It will show you the current application status, whether pending, approved, or rejected.

Checking Status Via Moya Application

SASSA has also launched an app for its applicants so they can easily apply or check their application status. Sometimes, using an application is simpler than logging in to the official website of an institute. Therefore, I have explained how to check the SASSA application status via an app.

Download Application

  • Step 1: If you do not have a Moya application, go to the Play Store or App Store of your mobile.
  • Step 2: Tap on the search bar and type “Moya.” It will show you multiple applications, but you have to open one that has an “M” logo.
  • Step 3: Click on the download button, and it will appear on your cell phone’s desktop once downloaded.

Checking Status

  • Step 1: Open the application, and you do not need to log in at first.
  • Step 2: Click on the “Discover” button and then “SASSA Grant.”
  • Step 3: Scroll down and click on the “SASSA Application Status.”
  • Step 4: It will ask you for your ID number and mobile number. Provide them, and tap on the “Submit” button.
  • Step 5: The application status, whether it is approved, pending, or rejected, will appear.

Check SASSA Status Via Phone

Sometimes, the internet is unavailable, or the applicant is unable to use an application or website because of their complexities, such as old people being more prone to use manual methods rather than taking an advanced approach. In such conditions, an applicant can use a phone to check status by SMS, WhatsApp, or calling the SASSA office.

SASSA Status Checking Via SMS

  • Step 1: Open the “Message” application of your cell phone.
  • Step 2: Type your SASSA ID number.
  • Step 3: Send a message to 082 046 8553.
  • Step 4: Wait a few seconds, and you will receive an SMS from SASSA containing information regarding your current application status.

SASSA Status Check Via WhatsApp

  • Step 1: You need to save the SASSA WhatsApp number in order to check the status, 082 046 8553.
  • Step 2: Open the WhatsApp application on your mobile.
  • Step 3: Go to the contacts and refresh the list by tapping on the three dots button.
  • Step 4: Now scroll down and open SASSA contact.
  • Step 5: Type “SASSA” and send it.
  • Step 6: You will receive a message, type “STATUS” and send it.
  • Step 7: It will ask for the reference number, type “Yes” and send it if you possess the reference number of the application.
  • Step 8: It will ask for the details, such as your ID number or mobile number, so provide all the details you gave while submitting the SASSA application.
  • Step 9: It will ask for the reference number, so provide it.
  • Step 10: After a few moments, you will receive your SASSA application status message.

Checking Status Via Call

In case you are unfamiliar with all these methods and find them challenging, you can call the office by dialing 0800 601 011. As a help center employee attends your call, provide your ID number, reference number, and all the other details. He will provide you with all pieces of information related to the application, and here, you can ask them the reason why your application is pending or rejected.

When And How Will I Receive SASSA Grant?

If your application status says that you are eligible for the grant and your application has been approved, you will receive money in your bank account. If you have given the banking details while submitting your application, the amount will be sent to that account within a few weeks, as the duration of payments is not mentioned on the website. But if you did not provide banking details, you should visit a local post office or SASSA-partnered retailer.

You will receive a confirmation SMS that SASSA will confirm the updated banking details.

SASSA Application Statuses

When it comes to SASSA status, there is a possibility that your application has not been approved yet, but that does not mean the department has canceled it. Basically, there are 5 major possibilities or types of SASSA application statuses. See below the SASSA application statuses.

  • Pending: This status appears when the department has not yet approved the application for some reason, but it has not been canceled. The pending status indicates that your application has been received but is still being processed.
  • Rejected: Another possibility is that the application is rejected due to the insufficient applicant’s information mentioned in the application.
  • Lapsed: It indicates that the SASSA grant has expired and needs to be renewed.
  • Canceled: It indicates that the SASSA has permanently canceled your application because you do not meet the criteria or the application is lacking important details.
  • Approved: It indicates that you meet eligibility criteria and your application has been approved, so you will receive a grant within a few days.

What Should I Do If My Grant Request Is Declined?

There could be many reasons why your application has been rejected or canceled. If an applicant does not meet the eligibility criteria, he will be deprived of the SASSA grant. Additionally, an application lacking important details is also rejected by the department.

  • Incomplete Information: The purpose of the application form is to gather information related to the applicant’s current financial crisis and his personal details, such as email address, phone number, and ID number. If an applicant has failed to provide all these details or if he provides incorrect details, the agency will reject his application.
  • Banking Issues: In case an applicant mistakenly added an incomplete bank account number or the account does not exist, SASSA can cancel or reject his application.
  • Eligibility Criteria: If an applicant does not fall under the eligibility criteria, such as having already enrolled in another financial assistance program, SASSA can reject his application.

These are the three major reasons why your application has been canceled, so you should double-check the details while working on the application form. Additionally, you should also check your banking details and if you fall under the eligibility criteria. In case all the details are accurate and you meet the criteria, you can contact the SASSA helpline to know why your application has been rejected.

You can lodge an appeal to the Independent Tribunal For Social Assistance Appeal (ITSAA). Basically, it is an entity established to hear the appeals of people against the decisions of the social assistance programs. The purpose of the department is to carefully review the applicant’s circumstances and reasons why SASSA has rejected his application.

You can appeal online via the official ITSAA website. You should provide your name, contact details, reference number of the application, ID number, the reason why the application was unfairly declined, and the evidence that supports your appeal. If the evidence is valid, and ITSAA finds that your application is unfairly declined, it will overturn the decision of the South African Social Security Agency.

FAQs

There can be so many reasons why SASSA’s status declined. It is possible that your personal details are incorrect/incomplete or you do not meet the eligibility criteria.

You should see the application status online or call the SASSA help center to know if the application has been approved. You can also use SMS or WhatsApp to check the application status.

It is possible that your application will take a few weeks to several months. Sometimes, the application is postponed due to insufficient SASSA funds.

Final Words

SASSA grants have helped millions of people all around the country, whether the recipient is a citizen of the country or seeking asylum. The purpose of the financial assistance program is to provide people with a quality life and assist them in managing their daily expenses.
